JAKARTE + JUKE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The visual arts association Jakarte rf and the cultural association Juke rf offer residency opportunities in Pietarsaari during two 6-week periods this autumn – 19.8-30.9 and 1.11-15.12. The associations offer various work spaces and living options, and the residency program is open to both local, national and international artists and artist groups.
The associations offer various work spaces, as well as accommodation, and the residency program is open to both local, national and international artists and artist groups.
Jakarte offers a studio (approx. 20 sq.m. separate part of a larger shared studio that is, however, rarely used) – there is the possibility to work with most media, including ceramics and printmaking. Juke offers accommodation in its association house, where there is also a music studio and workshop, which can be used if these are booked separately.
We particularly welcome applications from multidisciplinary artists and projects in need of both associations’ spaces and support services.
This autumn, thanks to support from KulturÖsterbotten and the Harry Schauman Foundation, we can offer €800 in fees per residency period (6 weeks), as well as €200 in travel or materials (against a receipt). The artist is expected to hold an artist talk for the association’s members, as well as at least one workshop/exhibition/event or donate a work after the residency period.
Jakarte and Juke organize the events and help the artist-in-residence create contacts and networks in Pietarsaari and the surrounding area, according to the artist’s wishes. In Pietarsaari there are for example UAS Novia’s visual arts program, as well as various cultural institutions and contexts, which you can familiarize yourself with.
You can also apply now if you have other project proposals. For example, if you have a shorter project in Pietarsaari for just a week or so, or if you only need one of the association’s spaces. Maybe you have other accommodation and only need work space at Jakarte, or you only need the spaces and accommodation that Juke offers. Get in touch through the same application form and we’ll see if we can contribute something to your project!
Our associations welcome everyone regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, social status, functional ability and so on. Unfortunately, however, Juke’s house is not accessible.
Inquiries are directed to jakarte.jakobstad@gmail.com and/or jukeboxjeppis@gmail.com!
The deadline for the application is 5.7, at 00.00. Decisions are made in mid-July.

ART ASSOCIATION JAKARTE
The visual art association Jakarte rf was founded as early as 1950 and is an association that promotes the visual arts in the area, both for amateurs and professional artists. We have about 100 members currently. Jakarte organizes exhibitions, courses and lectures both for members as well as others interested in art, and works to promote employment opportunities for visual artists in the area. Jakarte has a collaboration with University of Applied Sciences Novia’s visual arts education, as well as the municipal cultural services.
In the residency program, Jakarte offers a guest studio for an artist or artist group. The guest studio is about 20 square meters and is located in the association’s existing studio, separated by removable walls.
The artist/artist group is expected to take care of the space well, and can use the association’s materials and tools that are in the studio, if so agreed on. For example, we have a small printing press and ceramic kiln in our studio. In the studio there is also a kitchen, including stove, fridge, microwave, coffee and kettle.
The association has to be able to carry out regular activities undisturbed, i.e. sporadic courses and meetings, but apart from that the entire space can be used by the artist in residence.
Jakarte’s studio is located on the third floor of Tobaksmagasinet. There is an elevator, but it is not always accessible. Get in touch regarding your accessibility needs.
